AOTM September 2010 – Shayna Zaid and The Catch

Play

Blending elements of folk, indie pop, gypsy jazz, bluegrass and cabaret, New York based Shayna Zaid & The Catch’s sound occupies a place in music that bridges a new gap between the milieu of genres. They have drawn comparisons to Nickel Creek, Feist, Macy Gray, Gogol Bordello and A Fine Frenzy. Zaid’s dynamic stage presence, her powerful smoky voice and her playful jazzy swagger lends an enchanting display amidst a refreshing acoustic soundscape.
Their song Morning Song was recently featured on a TV advertisement for Ford in the USA.
UPDATE: The Ford commercial is now showing worldwide so look (and listen) out for it!

UPDATE 2: As of summer 2012 the band are on indefinite hiatus working on new projects. Great shame 🙁

This month’s reviewer is … Sarah Groves (Adnams web team)

Sarah works within the web team at Adnams, spending most of her time designing and writing.
She designs the weekly Adnams email-outs, create banners for the website, posters, and various bits and pieces.
She has a background in wine and also works with the wine buying team tasting the many hundreds of wine that never make it onto the Adnams shelves, and helping select those that do.
Sarah also takes quite a few photos when she’s out and about, to accompany the Adnams blog posts.

Listen here
Sarah describes her envy-inspiring career which started with a very smart move quite early on. She also talks with inspiring enthusiasm about the importance of a proper sense of place in sourcing the best ingredients to create great products.
Despite an extra show’s worth of tracks to choose from, Sarah managed to get it down to a manageable eight before making her final choice for Adnams Artist of the Month September 2010.
