Strange noises in the barn and some interesting music this week in a balanced show with three tracks from  each side of the Atlantic. Tracks from Florida, New York, Nevada in the USA and Huddersfield, Derbyshire and Essex in the UK.Have you tried the Google Maps route from New York to London yet. Go to Google, then click on Maps at the top of the window, then Get directions just below the search window, enter New York as your Start address and London or Paris and read the directions very carefully from about 20 onwards. You’ll be pleased to know that NY to Paris should take you about 29 days and 7 hours but you’ll have to try it to find out why. Here’s another one to try. See how your mouse works: http://www.1-click.jp/IntroHappy – Jimmie Bratcher (Missouri, USA)www.jimmiebratcher.comEverything Irie – RHHSII (Florida, USA)RHHSII stands for real, historic, and holistic, scholar, with integrety, and identity. RHHSII has been doing dancehall music and fusing dancehall with other music genre from an early age. Rhhsii’s music is cultural, educational, spiritual, and entertaining. This music is for everyone to enjoy.Ive had this track on my playlist for a while but now I’ve played it I’m a bit confused. No web link from the PMN and a search in Google throws up the MySpace of Viajah Morgan, dub poet. This could well be one and the same but I’m not certain. Certainly some interesting dub poetry on Viajah’s MySpace so I’ll put the link in anyway.www.myspace.com/viajahCalifornia –  Zach Hurd (New York, USA)Z. Hurd is a singer songwriter and producer. He has played with Barbara Pecirep (Ruby!) in the duo Causeway. He is also producing tracks for the hip hop/(still searching for a genre) solo artist Skinny Z. With all that I suspect not a lot of time for live dates although I see said Causeway will be playing a couple of dates in New Jersey and Maine during the summer.www.myspace.com/zhurdTear it up – Pete Contino Band (Nevada, USA)Pete grew up with accordion music in the house, his father is accordionist Dick Contino with whom Pete has recently collaborated on an album appropriately enough called Contino. Pete’s musical style has been described as acoustic blues with a touch of zydeco. Check out his original CD, Push It, on CD Baby.www.petecontino.com/Reggae Blues – The Moot (Hudderfield, UK)Always a delight to have The Moot on the show. What did I do is the first track on the album. A rare treat to hear a voice of such quality on a frankly excellent recording of some delightful songs, all of which are penned by Una and Tony. Shows coming up: Fri 11th May – Folk on the Pier, Cromer, Norfolk Sat 12th May – Black Lion Hotel beer festival, Little Walsingham, NorfolkSat 26th May – The Black Lion, Radcliffe on Trent, Notts Lots more on their website.www.freewebs.com/musicnfaOsama Bin Laden, you ruined my birthday – Pudge (Washington, USA)I’m sure that someone will be looking to take offence at this comedy song. Such a rarity on SnC. It just made me giggle – I suspect out of relief that maybe, just maybe we are coming to the end of the obligatory furrowed brows and downcast eyes at the very mention of 11th September. If anyone is or wants to be offended, I would suggest that they are very brave and face it, lots worse things than offence happen at sea. Oh dear, maybe that’s offensive too. Pudge says: "I have recorded a wide variety of songs, from the sweet "Osama Bin Laden, You Ruined My Birthday" to the riotous "Just Getting Started." Oh wait, I think I got that backward."You can check out his web site for downloads and more music.http://pudge.net/tunes/No Candy – The Fighting Cocks (Essex, UK)Another return visit from one of my favourites and also, I know, of Pete Cogle at PC Podcast. The Fighting Cocks are Essex’s premier Gypsy Hardcore band, and they have their own label FGZ records.MC Matyi: vocals and guitar;Pinky: vocals and guitar;Anna: vocals and choreography;Cherry: vocals and band stylist;Ilaria: vocals;DJ Assassin: turntable selecterQuite a few dates coming up in London and one foray to Cambridge details on their site.www.f-cocks.demon.co.ukwww.myspace.com/thefightingcocks
