Play

A strange time of year at the best of times but after all the fog last week, it has been heavily overcast for days so it has hardly got light which adds even more to the feeling that we are in limbo. What’s more, no picture this week. It hasn’t ben light enough! At least it has been dry for a few days, indeed so much so that I’ve been able to get out and cut the lawns and paths in the garden. How rock and roll is that? That’s a first, pushing the lawnmower around the garden on Boxing Day!PMN is full of surprises. Lots of great new music and over half of this week’s tracks are SnC Firstplays. Strange, I’d have thought that most podcasters with day-jobs would be trawling the PMN while they have time. Little Boy – Once Just (Alberta, Canada)  FIRST PLAYOnce Just has played hundreds of shows all over North America, they signed to JSK media early 2006 and released their first album Destination with the label on Oct 31 2006. Once Just is a blend of rock and reggae with hooky pop melodies. Little Boy is from the album.http://www.oncejust.com/http://www.myspace.com/oncejustRiverlady – divineMAGgees  (North Carolina, USA)  FIRST PLAYdivineMAGgees (pronounced "Maggies") have created a provocative, unique sound. Cregan and Danielle make: "sweet, dreamy alt-folk rock that draws on everything from bluegrass to punk to jazz, intertwining acoustic and electric guitars and fiddles with their perfectly matched, harmonious vocals." (Curve Magazine). Riverlady is taken from the divineMAGgees album Love me like the roses. If you want to see the duo in action (and I do!) there are some gigs coming up and there’s a video on their MySpace page. This track is from their album Become01.05.07 Alturas, CA01.06.07 Alturas, CA01.13.07 Mokelumne Hill, CAhttp://www.adventurepop.com/http://www.myspace.com/holidayandtheadventurepopcollectiveWinelight Club (Norwich, UK)The Winelight monthly show on 3 January features: Sarah Barton-KeeleyDom LewisSean RedmondElissa Franchesci. On 6 February a special night at the Norwich Arts Centre presents:Nell BrydenJamie WoonFiona BevanBoth gigs will be pretty special based simply on my having seen Sarah Barton-Keeley and Jamie Woon before). See the Winelight MySpace for booking details.http://www.myspace.com/thewinelightclubDancing with Joey Ramone – Amy Rigby (New York, USA)I think its unprecedented to play tracks by the same artist two weeks running but the case for the exception is well made by Amy Rigby. See last week’s show notes for more info. This track is taken from the album Little Fugitive.http://www.amyrigby.comhttp://www.myspace.com/amyrigbyUniverso – Ze Sao Paulo (Brazil)  FIRST PLAYI must admit to being unsure whether this really is Ze Sao Paulo because the MP3 tags show the artist as Bala N’agulha. Perhaps your Portugese is better than mine and you"ll be able to tell me what these notes say.Músico e Audio Designer com formação erudita, pop e jazz com curso de composição e violão no Conservatório de Madri em 1975. Its simply because they refuse to be boxed into a specific genre, in one song they can be thoughtful and serious, both musically and lyrically – in another they produce a rabble rousing ro…   and there they ran out of characters on the PMN bio space!
