S’n’C 004 – Thu 23rd Feb 2006

Play

An upbeat but still eclectic selection of tunes from: Hey Gravity, Paisley Riot, Geoff Smith, Beatrice Ericsson, John Ward and Jesta.

Hey Gravity! – Risen
Two girl / three boy dynamic UK based guitar band fronted by electric chanteuse / singer Justine Berry. The have great songs and will quite simply rock your socks off.

“Hey Gravity! are bringing quite an unfamiliar flair to the business of heavy riffing. Undoubtedly raw, but with some of the anthemic qualities of the classic FM rock single, singer Justine brings a touch of Polly Harvey to their Bachman Turner Overdrive, which makes all this quite a refreshing change.” NME

Sounds like: “an express train running off the rails into a Tesco’s.”

Justine Berry – Vocals
Andy Miller – Guitar / vocals
Anna Hall – Guitar / vocals
Paul Hegland – bass
Sturart Macmillan – drums

Geoff’s music is “like the sensation of having ones ears taken out to dinner and a few drinks and then heading on out to see a band that plays all your favorite songs.”
Geoff plays all over the world both in his band and in numerous dueling piano bars, where he might play your favorite song.

Growing up in a small town
Lou Reed and John Cale wrote Smalltown (on the album Songs for Drella) part of the lyrics read:
There is only one good thing about small town
You know that you want to get out
When you’re growing up in a small town
You know you’ll grow down in a small town
There is only one good use for a small town
You hate it and you’ll know you have to leave

John Ward – Home town fame
Full-time singer/songwriter John Ward is based in Lowestoft, Suffolk. A small town rather less known as the hometown of The Darkness and (at one time) Bird’s Eye fish fingers!
John has a reputation as a fine (and energetic) solo performer and often works with outstanding violinist Mario Price. The two of them work with and off each other to brilliant effect and should not be mised.
February gigs:
24th – Waveney Folk Club, Crown Street Hall, Lowestoft.
25th – White Hart, Aldebrugh, Suffolk
